Aaron Rodgers condemns Thomas Davis’ hit on Davante Adams: ‘He’s a repeat offender’

Adams, who required medical attention on the field after the hit before he was helped off, later was ruled out with a concussion. When asked about Adams’ condition, Rodgers said he had not spoken to the wide receiver, but said, “I’m obviously concerned when he’s not out there.”

“I’ll never understand it,” Adams wrote. “Game is already dangerous enough and we got Pro Bowl players out here head hunting and saying they ‘didn’t mean to harm me’ … Somebody please explain to me what I wasnt trying to hurt him means when we nowhere near the play and u lead with ya head and ear hole a defenseless player …

there’s the more subtle link. For both, it’s anyone’s guess which team will show up in any given week.

After the Bills’ win (and the Ravens’ loss) Sunday, McDermott said, No one gave this team a chance all year long, and for once, that no-respect ploy was genuine. Being judged in November on whether he was throwing away a playoff berth was not what anyone expected to be a topic around the Bills this year.

But they wrung everything out of LeSean McCoy, overcame the baffling, counterproductive use of Taylor’s strengths, survived without a healthy, reliable set of receivers and patched together enough of a defense to get by most weeks.

That’s not terribly uncommon on wild-card weekend — if either were more consistent, they’d be off this week. But here is a Jaguars team that physically dominated playoff contender Seattle in Week 14, then two weeks later got physically dominated itself by a 10-loss 49ers team. The Bills, meanwhile, in a three-week span earlier, gave up 298 rushing yards to the Saints and lost at home 47-10, then went to Kansas City and smothered Alex Smith’s offense in a 16-10 win. (The game in between, with Nathan Peterman starting … that is and always will be a separate issue.)

Vinnie Iyer: The Falcons have the much better run defense, but the Rams have the more dangerous backfield because of Gurley. The Rams will get into Matt Ryan’s face with Aaron Donald, while the Falcons won’t have the same success winning on the edge against tackles Andrew Whitworth and Rob Havenstein to get to Jared Goff.

The Bills appear to be the biggest Andy Dalton fan outside of Cincinnati.

The Bengals quarterback’s last-minute touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd not only secured a Cincinnati win over the Ravens, but sent the Bills to the playoffs for the first time since 1999.

Understandably, they’re asking what the Ravens do now after falling short too often, but never falling totally off the cliff. The mediocrity has a lot of moving parts, which Harbaugh acknowledged while praising how the players gritted it out this season, through an epic wave of injuries, until literally the last minute of the last game.

I’m disappointed. I’m hurt, because I wanted this team in the playoffs, Harbaugh said after the loss. I wanted this team in the playoffs for the team, the players, because of what they’ve done this year, how far they’ve come, the adversity they’ve overcome, what they’ve dealt with.astros_035

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer announces retirement

Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer announced his retirement Tuesday in a letter after 15 seasons in the NFL.

“Over the years, I’ve had teammates who decided to hang it up and I would ask them how they knew it was time to walk away. The answer was almost always the same: you just know,” Palmer said in the letter.

Palmer was reduced to just seven games this season after breaking his left arm. He was placed on injured reserve with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.

With Palmer opting to retire, and Bruce Arians retiring as head coach, the Cardinals could be ready to usher in a new era. Veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has yet to announce his decision for next season, but the end of his career could be just around the corner as well.

“Marvin Lewis has been an important member of the Cincinnati community and the Bengals family for the past 15 years, and we are happy to have reached this agreement,” Bengals president Mike Brown said in a statement. “Marvin has made significant contributions during his time here. While recently we have fallen short of our expectations, we have full confidence in Marvin to re-establish winning football in 2018.”

The Bengals won their last two games this season, but still finished 7-9 — third in the AFC North.

“My family and I are very grateful for the opportunity to stay in Cincinnati and continue my career with the Bengals,” Lewis said. “My job is to win a World Championship. We have a talented roster full of veteran leaders and emerging young stars, and I am committed to making the necessary improvements to put this team in the best position to win.”

Lewis is 0-7 in the postseason during his career as Bengals head coach.
